(a young Paul checking the comfort of a special customers jacket)
Well, well isn’t it about time I put electronic pen to paper. No doubt you all wondered with our new project I was far too busy to write about the art of bespoke Savile Row tailoring. Well in all fairness you’d be correct. However, the lack of time comes from a couple things. One you can clearly see in the bottom picture and also our bespoke business is as busy as ever.
(Paul’s mentor, Pat Davey having a break)
I’m very proud of our new online service which will be launched this November. We’ve really tried our utmost to source cloth and produce the finest garment possible at this price point. I of course want this to be a success but myself, Paul and the team love making bespoke clothing and we have no intention of giving up this wonderful craft.
Admittedly, I may just slow down a little bit. As you know we’ve been in this trade for a few years and I thought I must show you these lovely old pictures of when Paul and I were at Anderson & Sheppard, Savile Row back in 1990. While I was downstairs in the stern atmosphere of the cutting room, Paul was aloft in the workshops. As you can see we weren’t too interested in political correctness or health and safety. Paul’s dear old mentor Pat Davey takes out a moment to have a quiet smoke at his board. Paul at the same time models a jacket for a very famous member of the Royal family that I had the pleasure to cut for. I’ll let you work that one out.
(myself and future apprentices??)
Talking of making for lovely people you may find these couple of articles interesting. This one in Vogue and this in the New York Times. Promise to try to talk soon and I’m looking forward to my next visit to the United States in November. If you want to catch up the details are here .
